Mechanism: Amoxicillin is the 4-hydroxy analogue of ampicillin,it is a bactericidal broadspectrum antibiotic. Uses: in actinomycosis, anthrax, biliary-tract infections, bronchitis, endocarditis (particularly for prophylaxis), gastro-enteritis (including salmonella enteritis, but not shigellosis), gonorrhoea, Lyme disease, mouth infections, otitis media, pneumonia, spleen disorders (pneumococcal infection prophylaxis), typhoid and paratyphoid fever, and urinary-tract infections. w
Dosage: mild to moderately infections : adults and Children: over 10 years: 3 x 500 mg daily + Children: 5-10 years 3 x 250 mg daily +Children: 2-5 years 3 x 125 mg daily Children: +0-2 years 3 x 100 mg daily 'Generally 25-50 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses. In chronic, relapsing and severe infections,- 3 x 750-1000 mg daily.+Children: 100 mg/kg daily in 3 doses.
