what medicine Thiopental 500 - Sandoz-Austria؟

Mechanism:induce hypnosis and anesthesia but not analgesia. Action sets in within 30-40 seconds of IV injection.
Recovery is quick but repeated Doses may prolong anesthesia. The drug is stored in fatty tissue and released gradually. Uses: anaethesia of short duration, status epilepticus. Rapid control of convulsions. Infusion of subanaesthetic Doses used to facilitate verbal communication with psychiatric patients.
Precautions: Barbiturate anaesthetics are C/l:when there is dyspnoea such as in acute severe asthma or when maintenance of an airway cannot be guaranteed.
Side effects: as for Phenobarbital. (Look chapter 42). Ad. Dosage:I.V. (3-5 mg/ kg ) as a 2.5 mg soln. produces unconsciousness in 15-30 sec.
